Cover Reveal: Flirt by Laurell K. Hamilton

Flirt cover

I happened across this cover of the next Anita Blake “novel”, Flirt. I get the impression this is more of a short novella than novel (like Micah was), but LKH keeps calling it a novel. Amazon lists it as 192 pages, no description as of yet.

I have to say I am not sure I know where the cover art is coming from. I wasn’t a big fan of Skin Trade or Blood Noir covers either… they seem so different from previous cover arts and completely unrelated to the stories. Flirt is book 18 of the Anita Blake series and set to be released Feb 2nd, 2010. The next full length novel is currently titled Bullet and set for June 2010 release.

  • I’ve yet to commit to reading the Anita Blake series. I have to say I’m not really fond of this cover at all. Doesn’t reach out and grab me.

  • There series is ok, it is no Night Huntress series…. but I liked it mostly. The earlier books better than the recent ones. This cover is really strange, but similar to the cover of the last 2 books….doesn’t grab me either.

  • I have this theory that Hamilton’s publishers are trying to make her covers look ‘cutting edge’, dark and sinister – basically trying to convince fans that the books are as good as they once were, heavy on the action and mystery… when in reality they’re still just erotica with minimal plot and no characterization.
I’m still toughing out this series, but it gets harder and harder with each new book. Old-school Anita was so good, but recent books have seriously fallen by the wayside.
I do love the ‘Merry Gentry’ series – but I appreciate that in that series Hamilton is up-front about the sexual content and has made it a characterization. Whereas in Anita all the erotica and orgies is an assault on her character.
    Sorry for the rant, lol.

  • Danielle – I agree with you. I started with Anita and loved her at first. When I finished the series I switched to Merry and found those a bit more refreshing than Anita because they were still true to what the story started out to be. I will still read both series, but I am thankful for my kindle because I refuse to buy them in hardback.
